Nature is bouncing back amidst this COVID-19 crisis!
Since the MCO was implemented, everyone has been cooped up in their houses, leaving places like the park, the beaches, shopping malls, and even the streets empty, thus even animals like the wild elephants were recently spotted roaming freely in the streets of Terengganu.
Now, it’s turtles that were found roaming around! The Negeri Sembilan State Fisheries Office announced the discovery on their Facebook page recently.
The officials found 118 Agar (Green) turtle eggs and 110 others of unknown species. “These turtles have nested on the beaches in Port Dickson before but it has become rarer as these reptiles were deterred by the rapid developments of PD and the bright lights,” said State Fisheries Department director Halimi Abu Hanip.
“The turtles would look for a quiet spot, and we are actively locating them with the help of those who have been given permission to collect the eggs,” he added.
He added that the lack of human activities on the beaches at Port Dickson due to the recent implementation of the MCO is the reason that these turtles are coming back here to lay their eggs.
These turtle eggs will be collected and brought back to the Ornamental Fish Centre to be incubated for conservation.

So, if you’re walking around the beach and find a turtle’s nest filled with eggs, do alert the authorities immediately!
This is great news! So, now we have to make sure that we take care of the environment and protect their habitat so that more and more turtles would come to our beaches to nest.
