Malaysians can cherish the joy of Chinese New Year this year with their families, but they must still adhere to the rules and protocols set under the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The Malaysian Public Health Physicians Association (PPPKAM) told Astro Radio News people tend to get lackadaisical and forget to observe the rules during such big celebrations.

“We must remember that we are still fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The cases are increasing every day. As such, those celebrating the Lunar New Year must adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and new norms.”

PPPKAM president Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar pointed out that apart from physical distancing, guests (family members) should also always wear face masks and sanitise their hands frequently.

“It’s best to have no unnecessary physical contact between the hosts and visitors” he said.

Dr Zainal also urged those with symptoms to avoid visiting others, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This, as the government revised certain Chinese New Year SOPs, giving the green light now for family reunion dinners.

Stay safe, guys!
