M’sian Pays RM400 To “Road Workers” Who Claim They Were From The City Council

A woman from Taman Puteri Indah in Batu Pahat, Johor recently revealed a lesson she learned the hard way…

In a Facebook post, the woman, who is known as Kit said she paid RM400 to “workers” who were repairing the pavement in front of her gate. She said that she was on the phone when she was startled by loud noises outside of her house.

The incident happened on Tuesday (September 6) when a crew of four men claimed to have been sent by the city council to repair the pavement in front of her home. She added that one of the men yelled at her aggressively to move her car.

“They asked me very rudely to park my car somewhere else, which I comply with,” she said.

She also added that the men looked suspicious, so she approached one of them and asked whether she had to pay them for all the work. One of the “workers” then said: it’s going to be RM250 per gate and since you have to gates, it will be RM500.”

Wait a minute, RM500… and for what?!

Before paying the man, Kit then called one of her male friends who later arrived and spoke to one of the men. After some negotiation, they finally settled on RM400, which is still a lot in our opinion!

When the repair work was completed, the “worker” then demanded RM450. As Kit’s friend only had RM400 at the time, he told the worker to “take it, or leave it.”

Netizens were shocked! Some even took to the comment section to advise the public that if this happens to anyone in the future, the first thing to do is to call the city council and confirm with them!

Though we’re not sure whether they are actually working for the city council, everyone should take note that the city council will never charge residents for road works even if it is reported by YOU!
