She’s captured hearts everywhere, and now, Moo Deng—the Internet’s beloved baby pygmy hippo—has won the prestigious Video of the Year award at the TikTok Awards Thailand!
This adorable win feels especially well-deserved, as Moo Deng’s escapades have become a social media sensation. From videos of her dashing away from bath time to her hilariously panicked expressions, Moo Deng’s charm has captivated millions. Her antics have even inspired a wave of fan content, including fan art, themed puddings, realistic cakes, and Halloween costumes, all paying tribute to the iconic “bouncy pig.”
Although the little queen herself couldn’t attend the ceremony, her dedicated caretaker, Atthapon “Benz” Nundee, accepted the award on her behalf, complete with a replica of Moo Deng to bring her presence to life at the event.
Initially, Benz had announced he couldn’t attend due to his zoo duties, but after his post gained attention, Khao Kheow Zoo’s Director, Narongwit Chodchoi, stepped in to handle the cleaning so that Benz could represent Moo Deng at the awards.
Since going viral in July, Moo Deng has become a star in her own right, helping Khao Kheow Open Zoo earn over THB12 million (RM1.5 million) in just three weeks. She’s inspired a range of merchandise and even given Thailand’s braised pork knuckle sales a boost thanks to her “bouncy” resemblance!
Beyond entertainment, Moo Deng has now lent her influence to a fundraising campaign supporting flood relief efforts and animal welfare projects in multiple zoos.
Adding to her fame, Moo Deng will soon feature in exclusive gear in the popular mobile game Free Fire, giving fans yet another way to celebrate their favourite hippo.
