Police Confirm Viral CCTV Footage Of ATM Robbery Did Not Happen In Kota Kinabalu

CCTV footage showing a robbery at an ATM facility did not happen in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

According to NST, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah confirmed that there were no such incidents (June 30th).

The one-minute video that went viral on social media showed a man wearing a helmet entering the ATM facility with a knife after a woman made a cash withdrawal from one of the automated teller machines. 

Many speculated that the incident happened at a bank in Damai, Kota Kinabalu, however, Mohd Zaidi said police did not receive any report regarding a robbery at banks or ATM facilities. 

“Based on police investigations, none of the premises in the city have such an enclosed ATM chamber. We also did not receive any reports from a victim who was robbed at a bank or at an ATM facility,” he further clarified. 

Investigations into the video dated June 28th are still underway.
