Metrojaya Suria Sabah Addresses Viral Photos Of Mouldy Leather Goods

Recently, several photos of leather goods including bags, belts, wallets, and shoes in shopping malls that had gone all mouldy after being unattended to for several months went viral across social media.

While we may think twice before visiting the leather departments in shopping malls now, luckily, mall authorities were quick to react in addressing the unfortunate circumstances they are in due to the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Metrojaya Suria Sabah released a statement on 11 May to first address the photos that had been circulated online, claiming that the mouldy leather items did come from their store and that the photos taken were solely for internal use.

Investigations are still underway, but all damaged goods have now been removed from their shelves and replaced with new items.

The statement was posted on its official Facebook page along with a series of photos and videos of the mall authorities cleaning and disinfecting the affected areas. Bags and bags of damaged items were removed from the shelves, while all surfaces were wiped clean. The mall’s ventilators were also thoroughly checked to ensure that the air quality is safe in the mall while floors were sanitized and vacuumed.

Metrojaya posted an update several hours ago, that the mall had successfully undergone the cleaning and disinfecting process and will be opening their doors to the public today.

“Metrojaya Suria Sabah is all cleaned up, sanitised and looking great! It will be re-opening its doors starting from tomorrow, 13 May 2020 and will be open daily from 11am till 8pm. We welcome you to experience a safe shopping journey with us.”

We’re glad to know that this issue is resolved and that mall authorities are taking further action in ensuring the public’s safety during these uncertain times.
