It’s refreshing to know that honest people still walk among us.
Just recently, we shared the story of an employee who returned over RM7,000 after their boss made a salary mistake. Now, a similar act of kindness has surfaced in Sungai Petani, Kedah.

A good samaritan recently found 11 RM50 notes, totalling RM550, at a cash deposit machine at the Hong Leong Bank branch in Legenda Heights. The money had been rejected by the machine and was left behind by an unknown person. Instead of pocketing the cash, the honest individual returned it to the bank and posted in the Sungai Petani Facebook community group, hoping to reunite the money with its rightful owner.
“The machine rejected your 11 notes of RM50. Please go to the bank and ask the employees to collect them,” read the post, which was shared on 6 January.
The story quickly gained traction online, with netizens praising the Samaritan’s integrity. One user commented, “Some people are kind and civic-minded. If I were the one who found it, I’d definitely have kept it.” Another wrote, “Give this person a thumbs up! A virtuous man makes his fortune in a proper way.”
While many were in awe of the finder’s honesty, others jokingly wondered, “Why is it never me who finds [money]?”
The RM550 remains at the bank, waiting to be claimed by its owner, thanks to the honesty of one individual who chose to do the right thing.
