M’sian Woman’s Korean Husband Creates Unexpected Nasi Lemak & Tteokbokki Fusion

Malaysians are known for their deep love of food. Whether it’s our traditional nasi lemak or international cuisine, we enjoy exploring new flavours and embracing fusion dishes. So, when a Malaysian woman’s Korean husband decided to mix nasi lemak with tteokbokki, was it really that surprising?

Nasi lemak, with its fragrant coconut rice, sambal, and crispy anchovies, is a beloved local favourite. Meanwhile, tteokbokki, a popular Korean street food, features chewy rice cakes drenched in a sweet and spicy gochujang-based sauce. At first glance, the combination might seem unusual, but for Malaysians—who are always up for a food adventure—it’s just another exciting flavour experiment.

The woman couldn’t help but share her amusement, saying, “Mum, he’s eating tteokbokki with nasi lemak!”

Her husband, however, stood by his creation. “Why do you make it sound like I’m weird? I think people should eat it like this,” he replied confidently.

And honestly, he has a point. At the end of the day, tteokbokki is just another form of rice, and Malaysians have never been afraid of mixing things up. Fusion food isn’t just about taste—it’s about bringing cultures together, making our relationships with different cuisines and traditions even richer.
