The Movement Control Order (MCO) can be difficult for some who are separated from their loved ones due to the travel restrictions. However, when there’s a will, there’s always a way!
29-year-old Muhammad Noor Ramli recently travelled 428km on foot, from Kuala Lumpur to his hometown in Kelantan just to be with his family after a month of being away from them.
"I did this all because of Princess Sarah Anisa, 5," Ramli told Sinar Harian.
"Anisa asked me when I was going back, I told her that there were no buses. How am I supposed to get back to see you (Anisa)?”
"Anisa replied, then I cannot see you? Abah...can’t you just walk home?” Ramli said what his daughter told him.
It was then that he decided to walk on foot to return to his home in Kampung Lawang, Jedok here.
"So with all the money I have, I made the journey to Tanah Merah after being 'trapped' for 38 days in a staff dormitory after my contract as a cook at the cafeteria at University of Technology (UiTM) in Shah Alam ended on March 16, " he said.
Ramli even shared live updates of his travels on his Facebook page. In one post he shared a picture of his worn-out shoes, all from walking the four-day journey from Shah Alam to Tanah Merah.
Ramli also said that he nearly fainted after two days of not eating and surviving on only isotonic drinks.
“I feel like fainting. I just want to rest my eyes. I got up to buy some water. It’s been two days since I’ve eaten rice. I’ve only been drinking 100 plus since yesterday. I only got to eat rice today and I instantly feel refreshed. For now, we have to walk till we reach Gerik,” said Ramli in one of his Facebook live.
Luckily, he was able to complete his journey after receiving help from a kind police officer.
"After I made the Facebook live about my journey to go to Gerik, suddenly I received a phone call from a police officer from Gerik asking me to stay where I was so that he can reach me to help”
"After waiting for some time, the officer picked me up and sent me to a roadblock in Gerik. He then stopped a lorry travelling from Penang to Gong Badak, Terengganu to help drive me all the way to Tanah Merah” he told Sinar Harian.
Ramli even shared a screenshot of the Google Maps app that he used to track the time it took for him to complete his journey, showing that he walked for nearly four days straight just to complete the full journey.
Ramli arrived safely at the Batu Gajah Police Station at 11 pm last night before his wife took him to their parents' house in Kampung Lawang.
Ramli is currently at home observing the 14-day quarantine after visiting the clinic for a health check-up.
"I went to the Batu Gajah Health Clinic but I wasn’t required to do any COVID-19 screening because I am healthy. Only if I’m showing symptoms such as fever and cough, I have to go to and do health clinic again,” he said.
“For now, I just stay at home and quarantine myself.”
We’re happy to know that Ramli is safe and sound with his family. Well done, Ramli!
