PERHILITAN Confirms Wild Elephants Spotted Climbing Up Hill In Terengganu Are In Their Natural Habitats

Last week, a group of wild elephants were spotted climbing up a hill in Hulu Terengganu, Terengganu.

Videos of the elephants were shared on TikTok and have since gone viral. Many believed that wild animals can sense natural disasters before it happens and would leave their homes and head to safety several days before it happens...

However, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) disputes public claims and has confirmed that the hill and the area surrounding it, which is located near Tasik Kenyir, is actually the elephants’ natural habitats and pathways.

According to Berita Harian, PERHILITAN director, Loo Kean Seong said the hill that the elephant herd was traveling on is their natural route because they live in the nearby forest area.

He went on to say that the department is aware of the elephants in the area and has regularly done surveys there to prevent any unwanted incidents.

Loo also advised the public to not approach or bother the elephants, and further urged road users to not leave their vehicles at the side of the road to record videos or take photos of the elephants.

Road users near the area are also told not to use their car honk if they come across the majestic animal or use their camera’s flash when taking photos or videos from inside their vehicles, so as to not disturb the elephants or make the animal turn aggressive.

He said that the best thing to do when you spot an elephant on the road, is to drive away immediately.y

Take note, guys... Don’t kacau the elephants okay!
