Our home is where the heart is, and it is also our sense of security and belonging. It’s probably impossible to put a value on something so precious, so could you imagine the horror of having your home vanish in an instant? For this 63-year-old widow, unfortunately, this horror was more than a wild imagination.

Ainon Musa had the shock of life when she found her home of more than 25 years in Kampung Bakar Batu, Johor demolished without any prior warning. According to a report by Malay Mail, the contractors who were hired by Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd mistook Ainon’s house as one of the homes that were given up to the developer, when in fact her house was not scheduled to be demolished as she had not come to an agreement with the developer.

I have my personal belongings and furniture in the house, that was still undergoing minor repairs for the coming Hari Raya Haji season before the excavator destroyed my house without warning. The contractors then quickly left without an apology after finding out that they had demolished the wrong house.

Ainon is now forced to stay with her children temporarily as she seeks proper compensation and settlement from the developer and contractors involved.

Personally, I’m at a loss on what to do as I had planned to use the house as a gathering point for my children for the coming Hari Raya Haji holidays.

Perling assemblyman Cheo Yee How and Pakatan Harapan (PH) Perling branch head Norman Abdul Hamid have since offered their assistance to resettle Ainon into a transit home and are helping her receive the proper compensation for her losses.

This is simply horrible. We hope that she receives the proper compensation for her inconveniences and losses!
