Malaysia's long wait for a gold medal at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games has finally come to an end, thanks to the outstanding performance of Shereen Samson Vallabouy, who won the women's 400m race yesterday, Tuesday (9 May).
The US-based sprinter has been consistently breaking records leading up to the SEA Games, and her winning time of 52.53s put her almost a second ahead of her competitors.

Shereen's victory is historic for Malaysian athletics, as she becomes the first Malaysian woman to win the coveted 400m title at the SEA Games since N Manimagalay's triumph back in 1999, 24 years ago.
"I have been working hard to win the 400m gold since I first competed at the SEA Games in 2015. This makes the hard work all worthwhile.
“The training I have undergone in the US has also helped me improve, especially in terms of technique. There is not much more I can say, I just wanted to give it my best," Shereen said.
The SEA Games is not just a platform for athletes to compete and win medals; it is also an opportunity for the participating countries to strengthen ties and foster greater regional cooperation.
