Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, announced that PETRONAS would match the RM5,000 relief provided by the federal government, bringing the total aid for homeowners with severely damaged properties to RM10,000.

Those whose homes sustained partial damage will receive RM5,000 in total, with PETRONAS contributing RM2,500 alongside the government’s existing support.

Aid distribution commenced on the evening of 7 April, targeting 219 verified families registered at the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS). Each recipient will be contacted individually by the disaster committee, with all disbursements expected to conclude by Friday following thorough verification.

In a separate move, the Selangor state government is extending further support by providing rental assistance. A total of 613 households will be eligible for RM2,000 per month in cash aid over a six-month period, amounting to RM12,000 per household.

This initiative, estimated to cost the state RM7.35 million, is designed to help families secure temporary accommodation, given that the average rental rates in nearby areas such as Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru (Puchong) hover around RM1,000 per month.

Additionally, Amirudin revealed that Airbnb would step in to offer 78 units for affected families to stay in for up to two months, helping to ease their transition during this difficult time.

Altogether, the collective efforts of the federal government, Selangor state government, and PETRONAS are providing up to RM22,000 in assistance to each impacted household.

We sincerely hope that all Malaysians affected by this incident are staying safe, and that recovery and rebuilding will be made a little easier with this support.
