Penang's Plan! Direct Flights to Dubai, Chennai, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney & More by Year End

Former Penang Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin, has expressed optimism about the future of the state's tourism sector, believing that it will flourish even more with an increase in direct flights to the region.

Furthermore, the Penang State Government is diligently working to establish a solid foundation to connect Penang with major cities around the world.

Yeoh emphasised, "We aim to establish direct flights to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Chennai, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing, Chengdu, Tokyo, Seoul, Istanbul, and Sydney by the end of the year."

As the Penang State Legislative Assembly dissolves and the State Election takes place, Yeoh is passing the baton to the next tourism councillor, hoping that his successor will continue the mission of bringing direct flights to Penang International Airport (PIA).

Yeoh also highlighted that forging direct air links with significant global destinations could unlock vast potential for Penang in terms of advancing tourism, trade, and the economy.

This endeavour can significantly boost the tourism industry in Malaysia, as enhanced air connectivity can attract a larger number of international travellers and facilitate smoother travel experiences. The convenience of direct flights can make Penang a more accessible and appealing destination, contributing to increased visitor numbers and economic growth.

In alignment with this vision, AirAsia recently announced the resumption of its direct flight service from Hong Kong to Penang, operating three times a week.
