Penang is now free from large-scale illegal racing organized by mat rempits.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) said that this is because of the continuous enforcement and monitoring by Penang police and other enforcement agencies. This is following the infamous tragedy which saw five men killed and two motorcyclists seriously injured after being involved in an accident caused by illegal racing earlier this year.

According to BERNAMA, Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain revealed that since the incident, only several minor cases were reported involving dangerous riding by motorcyclists.
All of the perpetrators were detained for further investigations.
This is great news! Illegal racings is dangerous and encourages motorists to drive at speeds significantly in excess of those which have been deemed safe for public roads. Street racing also threatens the safety of not only those who are racing, but also spectators, other motorists and pedestrians.
