On Monday (August 8th), a man who appeared in a viral video where he made a baby “smoke” vape was arrested by police.

According to a statement by Johor police, the 23-year0old man was taken into custody by a criminal investigation team at around 12:45 pm. The report was made by the baby’s mother which lead to the arrest.
Johor Bahru North district police chief, ACP Rupiah Abd Wahid said that the suspect is the mother’s younger sister’s friend and at the time of the incident, the seven-month-old baby was with her, her sister, and the suspect.
Rupiah claims the suspect attempted to make a joke by placing a broken vape device in the baby’s mouth. The complainant’s sister had recess the incident and shared it on Instagram.
The video has since gone viral and faced criticism from online users.
Police will request a remand from the Johor Bahru court on August 9th, following the arrest for further investigation.
The case will be investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. The suspect, who is also a businessman faces a maximum term of 20 years in prison, a fine of RM50,000, or both if found guilty.
