M’sian Authorities Seize Rhino Horns, Tiger Teeth, Pangolin Scales Worth RM 80Million In Major Bust

The Malaysian authorities recently seized a container of African elephant tusks, pangolin scales, and other wildlife skulls and bones estimated to be worth $18 Million, which is around 80 million Malaysian ringgit.

This is their biggest seizure to date!

According to Al Jazeera, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department said in a statement on Monday that they discovered the contraband d hidden behind sawn timber following checks on a ship on July 10th!

The items include 6,000kg of elephant tusks, 100kg of pangolin scales, 25kg of rhino horns, and 300kg of animal parts including bones and horns. 

Royal Malaysian Customs Director General, Zazuli Johan told reporters that the shipment had been on its way from Africa via Abu Dhabi to Pasir Gudang, a major port in southern Malaysia, “The customs enforcement unit successfully thwarted attempted smuggling of these items.

“Elephant tusks, rhino horns, pangolin scales, tiger teeth, and many other bones and animal parts that were found in a container in Port Klang,” he added. 

The customs department said investigators were still ongoing.
