Now that COVID-19 individuals with no or mild symptoms are required to self-isolate at home instead of going to a quarantine centre, Malaysian Public Health Physicians’ Association President Datuk Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar shared with Astro Radio News some ways to disinfect your home.
“Clean your house and mop the floors with a disinfectant solution. Ensure the bathrooms, kitchen, hall and bedroom are all clean and disinfected.”
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), you can use 5 tablespoons of 5% sodium hypochlorite with 3.8 litres of water to prepare the disinfectant solution.
Datuk Dr Zainal also explains to us about some basic hygiene tips to follow.
“Make sure you are practicing waste management the right way and ensure your drains are not blocked."
He says you should sanitise your house at least once daily at night, but you should be doing it more frequently if you’re living with a COVID-19 patient.
The Health Ministry has also urged those living with a COVID-19 patient to take the extra precaution of wearing a face mask and disposable gloves when handling the patient’s clothes.
