Then there are those whose names are just plain weird, and to combat this, the Indonesian government has issued a new set of regulations known as Permendagri which mandates that Indonesians MUST have at least two words in their names…

On May 7th, Indonesia announces the Permendagri 73/2022 which states that Indonesians must follow a new set of rules to regulate their names on official papers. This also aids in avoiding perplexing encounters when traveling overseas.

They are required to have at least two full names with a maximum of 60 characters (including spaces)!

So, if you go above the character limit, your baby may become legally unnamed by the government. Oh no!

But for Indonesians who have already lived their lives with singular or unusual names, there’s no requirement for them to change their names to abide by the new rules. This means these new rules only apply to newborns.

Remember the Indonesian who went viral because his name was Batman bin Suparman? Though it’s a pretty weird name, we gotta admit it is pretty cool!

What do you guys think of this new rule?
