Finally! The moment we’ve all been waiting for…’Dark Mode’ on Whatsapp!
The popular messaging app has finally rolled out its ‘Dark Mode’ for iOS and Android users with promises to reduce eye strain in low-lit environments and avoid those awkward moments when your phone suddenly lights up in a crowded room or during an intimate moment.
Having popular messaging and social media apps such as Twitter and Instagram adapting to ‘Dark Mode’ much earlier, WhatsApp admitted that they have spent quite some time in coming out with its own version of ‘Dark Mode’, after much research and experimenting.
WhatsApp’s ‘Dark Mode’ will focus on readability by choosing colours that minimize eye fatigue and are closer to the system default selections on both iPhone and Android and information hierarchy which uses colours and design elements to ensure the important information stands out.
While Dark mode for iOS is purely black, Android users will get a shade of darker grey.

Users would need to ensure that they have the latest version of WhatsApp installed by going to either the App Store on iOS or Google Play Store on Android and clicking the update button if your WhatsApp app is not already updated. Once this is done, go into the app and hit Settings, and in the Chats section, click on Theme and then select ‘Dark’.
If you have iOS 13 or Android 10 installed on your phone and chose dark mode in your phone’s settings, your WhatsApp app should automatically turn dark too.
If you’re panicking that there isn’t any dark mode on your WhatsApp yet, don’t worry! WhatsApp says the new feature is rolling out in the coming days so if it isn’t available on your device just yet, it will be there soon!
Thank you, WhatsApp, for making it easier for us to play with our phones instead of going to bed!
