The Lost Food Project (TFLP), the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) and several other companies are coming together for World Food Day which falls on 16th October 2020 by hosting a Rice Bucket Challenge. The challenge will run from 12 October till 12 November 2020.

The aim of the challenge is to end hunger in Malaysia. Mohd Syazwan, the General Manager of The Lost Food Project described the challenge as “a fun and meaningful way to provide relief for the rising number of Malaysians struggling with financial uncertainty and food insecurity, in most cases worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
To participate, you would simply need to donate a bucket or basket with rice or essential food / non-food items at The Purveyor Stores; Village Grocer and Ben’s Independent Grocer.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year, TLFP doubled their efforts to provide 865,543 meals to B40 families and charities. The challenge will contribute and expand TLFP’s efforts to rescue surplus food and other products from supermarkets, manufacturers and whole markets to be redistributed to those in need.
In a similar vein, MRCS has also stepped up their efforts to relieve the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable communities with the #responsMalaysia initiative which is a movement to gather corporations, NGOs and communities in a coordinated and meaningful way.
