It’s already August! And you know what that means… ANOTHER WEEK OF SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!
Now, you’re probably gonna sleep in, binge-watch your favourite TV shows and hang out with your friends. But here’s five other interesting things you can do for free in the Klang Valley next week, you know, just to spice your life up a little!
1) ARTS: SH/FT – A Contemporary Visual Art Exhibition
We’ve already told you that Malaysians only visit art galleries once a year. So, you’ve either fulfilled your quota, or have yet to! Why not check out SH/FT at Publika? It’s a contemporary visual art exhibition that showcases our local talent, aimed at creating a new generation of art lovers in Malaysia. The pieces are portrayed through various mediums, such as paintings, woodwork and even sculptures.
For other artsy events, you can also check out Balai Seni Negara’s Facebook page!
2) MOVIES: TDSC presents Robin Williams Tribute
If you’re a movie buff, then you’ll definitely want to check out TDSC’s tribute to the late Robin Williams this weekend. August 11th will be five years since the legendary actor and comedian left us, and this KL underground-speakeasy-indie cinema will be screening two Robin Williams movies, in his memory. You can catch 1987’s Good Morning, Vietnam on Saturday, and last year’s documentary Come Inside My Mind on Sunday.
The Weekend Japanese Film Show (August 2019)
Or if you’re more into Asian cinema, there’s a screening of the 2017 Japanese romantic drama My Teacher on August 17th. The film is based on the manga series, Sensei! by Kawahara Kazune.
3) BF1 Free Soap Making Class
How bout making your own body soap? Best Formula Industries in KL will be conducting a free two-hour workshop on the basics of glycerin soap, and how to make your own.
But the workshop is limited to only 100 participants, so you’d better register ASAP!
4) MPH Children’s Book Festival
There’s also something for children! MPH is having their Children’s Book Festival at Publika, that will be on till August 16th. There’s of course, plenty of other activities for your kids to enjoy, from storytelling, to arts and crafts, colouring contests and more!
5) KL's many parks!

Finally, you can never go wrong with just being one with nature! Hike up Bukit Gasing in the morning, stroll through KL Forest Eco Park, or fly a kite at Kepong Metropolitan Park. However you want to embrace our extensive galore of flora and fauna, here’s a list!
