Malaysian comic creator, Erica Eng is now the first-ever Malaysian to win an Eisner Award - the comic industry’s equivalent of the Oscars!

Her webcomic ‘Fried Rice’, which depicts a life of a young girl living in Kuala Lumpur, snagged the Best Webcomic award at the prestigious Eisner award ceremony which was held virtually last Saturday morning (25 July).
In her Twitter post (@paprikapeprica), she congratulated her parents, family, and friends for her success, and Malaysians who inspired and encouraged her to set her story locally: “Thank you mom and dad for your unending support, family and friends for your prayers, affection, and support.”
“And thank you to my Malaysian brothers and sisters who’ve inspired me with your lives to set this story in our own beautiful country.”

Her webcomic, which centres around a young girl from Batu Pahat, Johor named Min who visited her cousin in Bangsar while applying to an art school in New York had given readers a glimpse into the daily Malaysian life.
Eng left secondary school in 2015 completed a Digital Animation diploma last year and is currently pursuing a 3D character animation degree with the Academy of Art University.
