Launched in 2018, the award aims to inspire an appreciation towards music from the different cultures of the world, and RWMF 2019 is the only award-winning festival from Malaysia to compete for the top 10 spot in the second TWMC Festival Awards.

The Transglobal World Music Chart praised Rainforest World Music Festival for its “huge vision for gathering the strengths to create such an immersive event”. The event saw a record turnout of 23,650 festival-goers, coming from many parts of the world.

The RWMF line-up features 30 bands and over 200 performers who delivered mesmerizing performances at the main stages and mini sessions. The event also provided a platform for local bands to showcase their talents through traditional melodies and rhythms of different indigenous tribes in Sarawak.

Araceli Tzigane Sanchez, Transglobal World Music Chart co-founder, and Festival Awards coordinator said TWMC was proud to have shown improvements and looked forward to a great 2020 edition.

The RWMF 2019 has also earned itself the winning criteria for the TWMC Festival Awards 2019 as it was closely aligned with responsible tourism and green initiatives policy as the forefront of the festival’s planning.

STB Chief Executive Officer, Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor said, “RWMF was in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, STB had taken the extra mile to incorporate green initiatives into various aspects of the festival, to ensure its sustainability as well as enhancing guests’ experience with a greener note”.

This includes encouraging festival-goers to bring along their own bottles through which they can refill at water dispensing stations places around the festival ground, to reduce the usage of plastic bottles.

RWMF, which began with a small audience of 300, now sees an audience of around 24,000 annually and has received worldwide recognition besides winning multiple awards.

The 23rd Rainforest World Music Festival will be held from 10 to 12 July 2020 in Kuching, Sarawak. Jom check it out?
