#GE15: M’sians Praise Young Woman Who Speaks Fluent Mandarin Helping Elderly Aunty At Polling Station

Being able to speak a foreign language is certainly something to be proud of because it’s not easy mastering a new language, especially if it’s not our first language.

However as Malaysians, we often hear people speaking fluently in Malay, English, Mandarin and Tamil, especially our Chinese and Indian friends who are very fluent in speaking Malay!

A video recently went viral on TikTok showing a SPR officer who was helping an elderly aunty at a polling station during the 15th General Election (GE15) last Saturday (19 November).

In the video, a Malay girl is seen speaking to a Chinese aunty in Mandarin, showing her the location of her voting station.

Netizens were impressed with her fluency and took to the comment section to praise the young woman for helping the aunty kindly and patiently, “I am jealous of anyone who can speak Mandarin. I am currently learning Arabic and I can’t tell you how much I am struggling.

“For now, I am only fluent in Malay and English,” said one person.

The TikTok video has since garnered over 993.6 thousand views at the time of writing and over 71,000 likes at the time of writing.

“I am happy to be able to help everyone, regardless of their skin color and religion,” the caption reads.

Ahh, we wish we can speak Mandarin, too!

If you feel like learning a new language is hard, remember that mastering a new language needs a lot of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

So, keep practicing and don’t give up!
