Now, a similar heartwarming scene has emerged in Johor, where a romp of otters was spotted near a waterway. Their chirping sounds and playful antics, including helping a friend climb out of the water, have captured the attention of netizens.

While the sight brought smiles, it also sparked discussions about what their presence could mean. Some speculated that habitat destruction might have forced the otters into more visible areas. However, experts from the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) offered a reassuring perspective.

"The presence of otters is a positive sign," explained an MNS representative. "They are indicators of healthy wetlands and a functioning ecosystem. The disappearance of otters from an area they once inhabited signals that the water body is no longer healthy and that the ecosystem has been disrupted."

Netizens shared similar sentiments. One user noted, "Otters are highly sensitive to water quality. Their presence means the waterway is still in good condition." Another added, "They play an essential role in connecting wetlands and humans, showing us the state of their surroundings."

Experts agree that while otters may be adorable, their presence serves as a vital reminder of the importance of preserving natural habitats. Protecting these areas ensures that wildlife like otters can thrive, benefiting both the ecosystem and the communities around them.
