Motorcyclist Pulled Over in Kedah Gets Warning and Helmet Instead of Fine

The Kedah State Road Transport Department recently shared a heartwarming story on its official Facebook page about an interaction between two of its officers and a female motorcyclist in Langkawi.

The motorcyclist had been pulled over for not possessing a valid motorcycle licence, but the situation took an unexpected turn, resulting in a kind gesture rather than a penalty.

Instead of issuing a summon, the JPJ Kedah enforcement officers decided to let the woman off with a warning and, as a gesture of goodwill, gifted her a new helmet that met road safety specifications.

The viral post, which has garnered over 173,000 views, begins with one of the officers politely asking the motorcyclist if she was a local and requesting her motorcycle licence. Upon checking, it was revealed that she did not have a valid licence, which the officer noted was her first offence.

A quick inspection of the motorcycle revealed no issues with the vehicle itself, as it met the required road specifications. However, the officers noticed that the helmet the woman was wearing did not meet the necessary safety standards. The helmet lacked the SIRIM certification, meaning it wasn’t approved for use on the roads.

After seizing the unsafe helmet, the officers presented the motorcyclist with a new, certified helmet that complied with safety regulations. They took the opportunity to remind her to obtain a valid motorcycle licence as soon as possible and to always wear a helmet that meets the required standards, ensuring safer roads for everyone.
