According to data from the United Nations Population Division, a significant 44.68% of Malaysians are single, whether they're never married, divorced, separated, or widowed. 

Surprisingly, Malaysia ranks among the highest in Southeast Asia for its number of single individuals!

In a recent report by Seasia Stats, Malaysia claims the third spot in the region, falling behind only the Philippines and Brunei. Here's a breakdown of the percentages:

  1. The Philippines – 49%

  2. Brunei – 44.9%

  3. Malaysia – 44.68%

  4. Cambodia – 44.6%

  5. Myanmar – 29%

  6. Thailand – 23%

  7. Indonesia – 22%

  8. Singapore – 20%

  9. Laos – 17%

  10. Vietnam – 16%

  11. Timor-Leste – 13%

These findings are sourced from the United Nations Population Division's Family Planning Indicators 2022, which offers insights based on data collected and projected from 1970 to 2030.

Additionally, recent statistics released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reveal that Malaysia's population has reached 33.7 million as of December 2023, marking a 2% increase from the previous year. 

Interestingly, there are more men than women in Malaysia, with a ratio of 110 men for every 100 women, totaling 17.7 million men and 16 million women.
