Friendly Eagle Hangs Out With People At Park In Subang Jaya, Asking For Water

Eagles are wild birds, and so far there has been no record of eagles being kept as pets.

Though there are certain types of eagles that CAN be domesticated and trained, like the Golden Eagle… the law clearly states that it’s illegal to keep eagles as pets.

A video of a white-bellied sea eagle in Subang Jaya caught netizens’ attention as it seeks for water.

According to the post, the incident that happened at 7:20 pm on Saturday (July 2nd) shows the eagle perching on a bench in an area where many people were exercising and hanging out at a park in USJ12.

Due to the scorching hot weather that day, the people decided to offer the bird, which looked a little dehydrated some water, which it happily accepted. And after it had enough, the bird then flew away.

The people also noticed that its behaviour is a little weird, as eagles are not friendly to humans and tend to shy away from populated areas most of the time, which led them to believe that it was actually asking for help and for some water.

Moses Wan, who was fortunate enough to witness the incident said that the eagle went to a water bottle that was on the floor, which prompted the bottle owner to give it a drink.

White-bellied Sea Eagle Surprises Folks at USJ12

White-bellied Sea Eagle Surprises Folks at USJ12 Today's scorching weather must have forced a White-bellied Sea Eagle to take unprecedented measures to seek some water to rehydrate itself. At 720pm this evening, the huge bird flew down to the USJ12 field and perched on a bench; attracting many residents who were exercising at the field. Children and even adults were excited with the abnormal behaviour of this bird which did not budge when approached. A resident offered it water from a container, which the bird happily welcomed. But once it had its fill, this White-bellied Sea Eagle flew off to the nearby trees. According to Moses Wan, who was fortunate to have witnessed the abnormal behaviour, the eagle went near the water bottle which was on the floor. This prompted the water bottle owner to offer it a drink. Naturalists when contacted belief the bird could be passing through Subang Jaya and stopped out of exhaustion. No tell-tale signs of leather anklets around the legs of the bird could rule out the possibly of it being a captive bred bird. According to eBird Malaysia, White-bellied Sea Eagles are enormous gray and white raptor that soars with wings held in strong V-shape. In flight note black and white underwing pattern, short tail. Juvenile is much browner and can be confused with Wedge-tailed Eagle, but note mostly pale and fairly short tail. Predominantly found along coastlines, as well as estuaries and inland waterways. https://ebird.org/malaysia/species/wbseag1/L2027882

Many believed that the bird could just be passing through Subang Jaya and was taking a break from flying. There was also no visible tracking device on its legs which rules out the possibility of it being a captive-bred bird.

“Children and even adults were very excited when they see the bird, which didn’t even run when people approached it,” says Moses.

How cute! We’re happy to see that people are respectful and kind towards wild animals. Well done, Subang Jaya!
