With the looming possibility of a TikTok ban in the United States, content creators and influencers are rapidly exploring alternative platforms to keep their creative momentum alive. One platform that’s gaining significant traction is China’s Xiao Hong Shu, known internationally as RedNote.

The shift comes as millions of users brace for life without TikTok, a platform that has revolutionised short-form content creation. RedNote, often referred to as the "Chinese Instagram," has emerged as the go-to destination for TikTok-style content, drawing influencers and audiences alike.
Interestingly, the migration to RedNote has also sparked a surge in Mandarin learning in the US. Language-learning app Duolingo reported a staggering 216% increase in Americans enrolling in Chinese language courses. According to TechCrunch, many new Duolingo users cited “TikTok” as their reason for learning the language.
The app’s social media team didn’t miss the chance to add a touch of humour, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “Oh, so NOW you’re learning Mandarin.”
The move to RedNote has also driven an increase in app downloads across the board. Data from Appfigures revealed a 36% rise in Duolingo downloads in the US, reflecting the growing interest in understanding and navigating Chinese platforms.
This spike in interest suggests that users may have tested various Chinese apps before settling on RedNote as their preferred alternative.
As TikTok’s future in the US hangs in the balance, influencers are leveraging RedNote to maintain their reach and engagement. With its visually appealing interface and interactive features, RedNote is poised to become a global hub for content creators looking to connect with audiences in fresh, innovative ways.
For creators and fans alike, the transition signals not just a change in platform but also an opportunity to explore new digital frontiers. Whether this shift will reshape the landscape of social media remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the influencer community is quick to adapt, even in the face of uncertainty.
