Retirement doesn't always fit everyone's life plan. After his mandatory retirement in April, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah has returned to the operating table, as shared on his social media account, @DGHisham.

Dr. Hisham officially resumed his duties at the Endocrine Institute of Hospital Putrajaya on October 3, proving that retirement is not in the cards for him, at least not just yet. This time, he's taken on the role of a surgeon.
"I will be conducting surgery sessions every Monday and running clinics every Tuesday," explained the former Health Director-General.
Dr. Hisham, often lauded as a pandemic hero, also shared his aspirations for the Endocrine Institute. He hopes that it will further strengthen medical and endocrine surgery services within the country and ultimately become a center of international excellence.
The Endocrine Institute at Hospital Putrajaya boasts a 10-story building with 220 beds, featuring an intensive care unit with 10 beds for adults and 8 for pediatric patients.
That's not all; it includes an Integrated Neuro-Endocrine hybrid operating theater along with four operating theaters that commenced operations just last week. The establishment of the Putrajaya Hospital Endocrine Institute was initiated by the former Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, with Noor Hisham playing a pivotal role.
The facility's inauguration took place in 2022 when Khairy Jamaluddin was the Health Minister, further solidifying its significance in the healthcare landscape.
Dr. Hisham's return to active duty was met with enthusiasm by his supporters, who cheered on his decision to "unretire" and continue serving the public. They see him as a true advocate, tirelessly dedicated to his work.
When Dr. Hisham retired in April, he had mentioned plans for a well-deserved break after 35 years of service to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
His commitment and leadership, alongside his effective team, were instrumental in navigating the country through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, helping restore a sense of normalcy.
Many are grateful for his dedicated service, and they eagerly welcome his return to the medical field.
