Recently, an ADUN from Dusun Tua, Edry Faizal, took a unique approach to tackling littering in his constituency. He actively reported offenders to the local council and even confronted them face-to-face.
In one instance, he spoke to a business owner who had been littering and throwing rubbish illegally. Speaking in Mandarin, Edry Faizal explained that littering was unacceptable and requested the business owner to inform him of any issues they faced with waste disposal in the future.
“Someone threw rubbish on the roadside yesterday, and we caught your sister doing it. You can't dispose of your rubbish in that area because there used to be a sign indicating this.
“If anyone throws rubbish near your business, you can notify me. Let me know if garbage trucks fail to collect the rubbish. It's acceptable to store waste in front of your establishment, but please avoid disposing of it elsewhere,” he was heard saying in the video.
The ADUN's proactive approach to keeping his area clean and free from litter has garnered attention on social media.
Many netizens praised his initiative to install CCTVs and monitor waste management in the area. However, some questioned the local council's lack of enforcement officers to curb littering.
The video has since garnered over 185.5 thousand views at the time of writing.
The importance of maintaining a clean and litter-free environment cannot be overstated.
