How do you get through possibly the worst time of your life? By making TikTok videos with your family!
The family of a specialist and head of the Emergency and Trauma Department in Teluk Intan Hospital, Perak, Dr. Samsu Ambia Ismail, previously tested positive for COVID-19. Now the whole family is COVID-19 free!
Dr. Samsu was first confirmed to be infected by the virus on March 22 after two screening tests showed he was positive. Soon, his wife and his 5 children also received the same results. The family of seven was initially treated at Ipoh Hospital before being transferred to Teluk Intan Hospital.
Despite their predicament, the whole family remained positive and upbeat with Erika Syamim, the eldest daughter, documenting their journey as COVID-19 patients via the popular lip-syncing app, TikTok!
Erika Syamim shared their time at the hospital together as a family through TikTok videos of them dancing and entertaining themselves at the hospital.
Today, Erika Syamim shared the good news on Twitter that her family is finally free from the virus! (through a TikTok video, obviously!)
In the video that saw them as a family changing their hospital clothes into ordinary clothes, Erika Syamim wrote, “Okay so my family has been discharged! Thank you so much for all the kind prayers. Here’s probably our last TikTok together at the hospital.”
She even said goodbye to the other patients in the ward with them.
This TikTok family has caught the attention of many on social media, all wishing the family well and hoping that they too have the positivity and courage to go through tough times just like this family did!
In an interview with Bernama, Erika Syamim said that they were confirmed to be free from the virus after three tests showing that they are negative, and that they now had to undergo quarantine at home for 14 days.
“We have to adhere to strict quarantine. Food and raw materials will be sent to us by the authorities,” she said.
In the meantime, they are also in the process of cleaning and disinfecting their house.
“Now that we are healthy, we are spending much quality time as a family at home,” said Erika.

The family will also be helping others who are curious about the disease by answering questions based on their experience as COVID-19 patients.
We are happy to hear the good news! Well done to the whole family for keeping up a positive attitude throughout the whole ordeal!
