Malaysian entrepreneur Azri Walter went to his office for a lepak session but found something else in the empty (or so he thought) office instead.
Azri heard a strange noise that seemed to come from below a table so he took a peek.
In the photo he shared on Facebook, we see a boy squatting down barefoot while stirring something in a rice cooker.
Curious, Azri then proceeded to ask the boy, who is one of his employees, Habil, what he was doing. The frightened boy immediately apologised and said he was cooking rice because he hadn’t eaten yet.
In response, Azri then asked why he didn’t just eat at the restaurant, given that Habil had made over RM1 000 for the week. Habil replied that he gave the money to his mother. She didn’t ask for it, but he pitied her and with the money, she could get herself clothes, food, and use it on his siblings as well. “I don’t know when my mum will be around until. While she’s still here, I want to make her happy. I have no commitments for now. Plus, I’m capable of getting my own income,” Habil told him.
Azri then explained in his post that he knew Habil’s father had passed away a few years prior and the 19 year old Habil had come all the way from Kuala Lipis, which indicated that the young man was shouldering a lot more than most youngsters his age.
What an act of selflessness! Filial piety is something often spoken about but rarely practiced - definitely the kind of child one would love to have.
