The duo, armed with their own appropriate ‘work gear’ started the initiative to collect face masks because they were concerned about the used face masks littered around their neighbourhood in Sungai Bakap, Penang.
According to the Malay Mail, the siblings also collect littered face masks at the Sungai Bakap Post Office, outside the Sungai Bakap Hospital and the Parit Buntar area.

In her Facebook post, Vasugi shared that their purpose of starting this cleaning initiative was to reduce the amount of waste, and the spread of any germs, bacteria, and viruses - especially now that the world is in the middle of a huge pandemic.

“I see face masks littered on the ground everywhere I go. We don’t know if senior citizens or young children who are living among us have strong immune systems or not to protect themselves against COVID-19,” she wrote.
She also said that everyone should continue to maintain their hygiene especially now that the world is living with this pandemic.

Improper disposal of face masks could pose environmental and health risks, especially now.
Please make sure you throw away your disposable face mask properly, or if you’re using a fabric face mask, remember to wash them every day!
