Malaysian Shares How To Keep Afloat In Floodwaters While Waiting For Help!

Torrential rains in Malaysia have caused flooding that has driven thousands of people from their homes on Saturday (December 18th).

Floods in Malaysia are common during the annual monsoon season between October and March, especially in the eastern coast! However, the non-stop downpour has hit the worst in the western state of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

If you ever found yourself stranded in floodwaters, one Malaysian has shared a tip on how to keep yourself afloat while waiting for help.

On Sunday (December 19th), one man shared a video on his Twitter explaining that you can use your pants to keep yourself from sinking. The video has since gone viral online!

Treading in water for hours and hours can be tiring, so he explains to remove your pants while you are in the water and tie both pant leg ends into a knot. Once you’ve tied them, put your head through the hole and fill the open end of the pants with surrounding water.

Hold the end closed after you’ve filled it up with water and it should be able to keep your head above water while you wait for help. It can be scary… but there’s no harm in trying!

If you don’t have pants, this works with any cloth including sarong, kain pelikat or kain batik.

Stay safe, everyone!
