Recently, netizens were in awe after photos of a lake filled with blooming purple flowers in Sungai Petani, Kedah went viral online.

TikTok user, @mr_goy uploaded a video of him going to check out the lake which spurred comments in disbelief that the beautiful sight is actually in Malaysia!

In the video, he was seen introducing his followers to Sungai Petani, where people usually hang out and take pictures beside a sewage plant ….um, what?

Apparently, despite the beautiful scenery, the smell there is horrendous!

In the comment section, one person claiming to be a local there said that the place is not actually a sewage plant but a natural lake that was supposedly misused to dispose waste from factories nearby. Well, that’s very irresponsible!

They added that the source of the foul smell actually came from the lake itself.

The blooming flowers called Kemeling or water hyacinth is also popularly known in Malaysia as keladi bunting.

The flowers, now in full bloom cover almost the entire lake located next to a busy intersection, with swarms of birds flying between the water plants and dead trees dotting the pond, making the view unbelievably breathtaking.

…straight out from a movie!

Meanwhile, state Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr. Mohd Hayati Othman said the kemeling was planted by MPSPK as a natural solution to address the foul stench issue at the oxidation pond, as reported by the New Straits Times.

Dr. Hayati said that the pond had attracted many visitors for photoshoots including those looking for a location for wedding photoshoots, despite the pond emanating a stench at times.

It is a pretty lake, not gonna lie!
