Local Designers Rally Together To Make PPE For Frontliners

PPE gowns, but make it fashion.

Netizens are cheering loudly for these local designers and their team of seamstresses who are working tirelessly to supply local hospitals with the personal protective equipment (PPE) gowns.

According to Free Malaysia Today, designer and President of Malaysian Official Designers Association (MODA) said that she was concerned after seeing pictures and videos of nurses and medical staff sewing their own PPE gowns. “They should be focusing on saving lives instead. Leave the sewing work to the designers,” she said.

The association decided to rally those in the industry to help out and received an overwhelming response. Despite the fact that designers are unable to run their businesses as normal and that their income has been affected, they still want to contribute in any way they can.

Melinda managed to collect RM100,000 in donations in just two days for the production of the PPE gowns.

“Fashion designer Khoon Hooi is already creating 600 pieces of the PPE gowns. Key Ng is doing a few hundred PPE jumpsuits, Alia Bastamam, Innai Red, Nurita Harith, and Mimpikita are all creating a few hundred pieces each. I am targeting between 80,000 to 100,000 pieces of PPE” she added.

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Datuk Jovian Mandagie on the other hand, won praises from the public for his own version of the PPE gowns!

He recently shared a photo on his Instagram account of the PPE gowns that he had made and netizens are in awe of the choice of colour, instead of the usual blue, he opted for a clean and classy white look.

Other than the classy looking PPE gowns, Jovian also has been handing out hygiene kits to the frontliners and those in the essential sectors - the kit consists of 20 face masks, 16 pieces of gloves and a 50ml mini alcohol hand sanitiser.

What an amazing effort by these awesome local designers, which goes to show that everyone can help in any way they can!

Words can‘t describe how I feel when I walked into the library of Hospital Kuala Lumpur on a Sunday today.. Off day will never be an Off-Day for most of the Staff, Doctors, Nurses, Therapists, Sisters and Volunteers at HKL during this difficult time. I salute them from my bottom of my heart! A scene of this story must be told! Thank you to everyone who are contributing their bit to help to fight this together with all the frontliners. We want u to know YOU ARE NOT ALONE! WE CAN FIGHT THIS TOGETHER! Please help them and us to collect more fund to allow us to purchase materials and PPE items for them to continue to fight for us and protect their lives and ours. Find out how you can help at @modamalaysia @fashionvaletcom and @imaret_my website and social media. THANK YOU FRONTLINERS AND ALL VOLUNTEERS. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
