IIUM Students Rally Together To Feed Stray Cats

Since the movement control order was implemented throughout the country, everyone is encouraged to stay at home. People are working from home, schools and some restaurants will remain closed at this time, and many students have already returned to their respective kampungs.

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Student Union recently went viral on Twitter for raising thousands of ringgit to feed stray cats around their campus.

According to Malaysiakini, the IIUM campus in Gombak has over 30,000 students daily and is now left with just 3,500 students after the implementation of the MCO, and cats who relied on the students’ generosity to give them food are now left starving on campus.

IIUM Student Union chief, Amir Nadzim Kaharudin said that they organised a fundraiser with IIUM’s cat lovers club, and managed to raise RM2,500 within a short time - which all went to buying cat food to feed the cats.

Though there are still students on campus who are ‘stranded’, they still managed to get access to food as there are still a few shops that remain open in IIUM throughout this period, however, hundreds of stray cats at the campus are not as lucky.

In a tweet, the IIUM Student Union posted a series of photos of volunteers bringing big bags of dry cat food. We have just received food for the cats all around our campus. Thank you to all donors.”

“If we’re hungry, so are they. We gotchu kitties!” The post has since garnered over 3,000 shares and over 4,000 likes.

Thank you for taking care of the kitties!
