A female elephant named “Yong Cimut'' was transferred to the Sungai Deka Elephant Sanctuary, Terengganu on Sunday (August 22nd) after it was caught for damaging an estate in Kampung Plang, Gerik, Perak on August 17th.
Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) director, Yusoff Shariff said the evacuation operation for Yong Cimut, who is estimated to be around 40-years-old and weighing about 3.2 tonnes, started at 9 am in a controlled and calm atmosphere.

“Two of PERHILITAN’s beautiful elephants, Alam and Rambai, brought from the Kuala Gandah National Elephant Conservation Center were used in the operation to persuade Yong Cimut before they were successfully transferred into a lorry.
“The operation was also assisted by 15 members of Kuala Gandah and 10 members of PERHILITAN Perak. The evacuation operation ended at around 12 pm,” he said in a statement.
He added that Yong Cimut had previously entered the village area as well as the local community’s orchard and damaged some crops, causing an estimated loss of RM15,000.
