This 76-year-old single mother in Kelantan, Siti Meriam Sulong, had to walk about three kilometres from her home in Kampung Pasir Hor to get her COVID-19 vaccine jab at the Balai Islam Complex in Lundang last week.
According to BERNAMA, she said she was determined to get the jab although she had to walk for almost three hours to get to the vaccination centre (PPV) on June 1st, after her son’s motorcycle broke down.
She told reporters that she was earlier scheduled to get the first dose of the vaccine last month, but had to postpone due to transportation problems.

“On the appointment day, my son’s motorcycle broke down again. But I didn’t want to miss my appointment for a second time, so I decided to walk all the way to the PPV.
“I left home at 10 am since my appointment was at 1:30 pm. I reached the Lundang Balai Seni Islam Complex at 1 pm,” she said.
She also said that when she arrived at the PPV, she asked permission from a nurse to rest first.
“When I arrived, I was told that it was my turn but I asked to be allowed to rest for a while because I was tired after walking so far.
“They were kind enough to book me a Grab car and also paid for it to send me home after my vaccination,” she added.
The mother of four said she didn’t want to trouble her children who were staying with her as they had health problems, while her other two children lived outside Kelantan.
Her granddaughter who lives in KL had helped her register for the COVID-19 vaccine via the MySejahtera app.
She said, “I am thankful that I have received my first dose of the vaccine. Senior citizens like me should get vaccinated so that we will not be easily infected with COVID-19.”
Siti Merian will be getting her second dose on June 22nd.
