“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated with a small nikah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families,” she said in her tweet.

Though she didn’t say much about her husband’s background, apart from his first name, many on social media have identified him as Asser Malik, a general manager of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s high performance centre from Lahore.

Malala, who champions for girls’ education rights in Pakistan has gained international attention after she stood against the Taliban, who were opposed to girls attending schools.

In 2012, she survived being shot in the head by Taliban gunmen for campaigning against its attempts to deny women education.

She became the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate at 17 in 2014.

We’re so happy for her. Congratulations, Malala!
