Pet Fish “Goes Shopping” In Japan, Charging Its Owner’s Credit Card Using Nintendo Switch

It may seem like something from a lucid dream, but a fish using a Nintendo Switch to charge up its owner’s credit card really did happen in Japan…

According to MS News, the fish, which belongs to a Japanese YouTuber, Mutekimaru regularly stream themselves playing video games together, and have amassed quite a following!

However, one of their live streams went horribly wrong when the fish accidentally used the controllers to expose his credit card information and even made some online purchases.

The video, which was uploaded on 16 January, has since gone viral on Twitter as well.

CNN reported that the fish tank is equipped with advanced motion detection tracking technology, which makes it easy for the fish to control the Nintendo Switch from a distance.

But while they were live streaming, a system error caused the Pokémon game that they were playing to crash, and the console redirected back to the home screen. This is when Mutekimaru took the opportunity to leave the stream for a moment.

While he was away, the fish continued to swim around while seeming to operate the console from its tank. Somehow the fish managed to log into the Nintendo store twice, downloaded a new avatar and created a PayPal account.

The fish is then seen going on a shopping spree, which is when things started to go wrong…

Not only did the fish charge 500 yen, or RM16.42 on Mutekimaru’s Switch account, the fish also accidentally exposed his credit card details on the live stream, which shocked a lot of their viewers!

In a later YouTube video, Mutekimaru said that he had contacted Nintendo to explain the situation and even asked for a refund.

That’s a smart fish, but so dangerous!
