The public is urged to make the best use of the ‘Balik Kampung’ Feedback Form initiative to facilitate frequent monitoring and patrols by the authorities at residences or premises left unattended during the Deepavali holiday period.
The Chief of Police in Melaka, Datuk Zainol Samah, mentioned that, in addition to filling out the forms available at nearby police stations, the public can also report their movements leaving their residences and premises using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) application.

"Thus far, we have received 39 feedback reports on hometown travel movements through VSP, and we have also provided forms to community representatives for distribution to those planning to return to their hometowns during Deepavali," he said.
He made these remarks to reporters after launching the Crime Prevention Campaign and Walkabout in conjunction with the Deepavali 2023 Celebration in Kampung Chetti Gajah Behrang last night.
Zainol stated that since the campaign was launched in 2021, the Melaka police have received a total of 108 feedback reports, and this number increased to 135 the following year through both mediums. However, no reports related to break-ins have been received since the campaign was implemented.
Furthermore, he emphasized that active community participation and strong neighborhood ties are essential in controlling crime and ensuring safety in their respective areas, especially during the festive season.
"This is why living in a community is so important because this culture will shape a caring, compassionate, and tolerant community that will indirectly close all spaces and opportunities for crime in society," he said.

As we celebrate Deepavali, let us all play our part in maintaining a safe and secure community. It is essential for Malaysians to remember to lock their homes before leaving, double-check that water and electricity are turned off to prevent any unforeseen accidents, and, above all, drive safely during this festive season.
Wishing you all a Happy Deepavali and safe travels!
