This caution follows numerous complaints received by the ministry concerning sellers at Ramadan bazaars who failed to adequately display prices and engaged in price gouging, as stated by KPDN Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh.
In response, KPDN has initiated Ops Pantau, deploying 2,200 enforcement officers who have conducted inspections at a total of 4,883 establishments, including Ramadan bazaars and food retail outlets nationwide.
Sellers found exploiting consumers could potentially face legal repercussions under various acts, including the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, Weights and Measures Act 1972, and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
Datuk Azman Adam, the director-general of KPDN's enforcement division, emphasised that failure to affix price tags on items could result in fines of up to RM50,000 for individual sellers and RM100,000 for businesses.
Take note, everyone! Make sure to display the prices of the items you're selling to avoid fines!
