In a world where cinema experiences keep getting more creative, from theatres with playgrounds to hotpot cinemas, one mother in Melaka has taken it a step further—by creating the world’s first junior pool cinema.

Known as Blue Mama on TikTok, this innovative mother introduced Blue Pool Junior on 2 October, a cinema where young children can watch their favourite movies while splashing around in mini pools. Located in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, the experience is budget-friendly, with an entrance fee of just RM8, making it an attractive option for families looking for something fun and different.
The concept quickly gained attention online, with parents buzzing about this playful twist on the movie-going experience. However, not everyone was entirely on board with the idea. Concerns about hygiene in communal pools surfaced, with many questioning how well the water is maintained.
Addressing these worries, Blue Mama assured her followers that hygiene is a top priority. She explained that after every movie, the water is fully replaced, and the pool is closely monitored by a Certified Pool Operator. These strict sanitation measures aim to ensure that the pools remain clean and safe for every child’s enjoyment.
The idea for the pool cinema came from a personal place. In a separate TikTok video, the mother revealed that she wanted to create an alternative way for her daughter, who was addicted to video games, to have fun while reducing screen time. After leasing an abandoned factory, she set out to bring this unique vision to life, transforming the space into a kid-friendly cinema that blends playtime with entertainment.
While some have expressed concerns, others have found humour in the concept, joking that their kids might come out of the pool looking like prunes after watching a long movie. Some adults have even asked if they, too, can join in the fun.
Regardless of the differing opinions, Blue Mama’s junior pool cinema offers a fresh and imaginative way for families to enjoy a day out together.
