Johor Hit By Flash Floods, Number Of Evacuees Rise In Kelantan And Pahang

As floods begin to hit Johor, with Segamat being the first affected district, the number of flood evacuees in Kelantan and Pahang continues to increase as of Saturday (10 December).

1,806 people had been evacuated as of 4 pm from four states.

The number of evacuees in Kelantan increased to 657 individuals from 212 families this evening, up from 280 individuals from 84 families.

The evacuees are being housed in four relief centers in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, according to the secretariat of the Kelantan state disaster management committee, with 450 of them in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tok Deh, SK Gual Periok (81), SK Kubang Kual (66), and the Putat Tujoh relief facility (60).

In Pahang, there are 581 residents in 11 centers, compared to 537 in eight centers at 8 am. 

Temerloh has the highest number of evacuees, with 382, followed by Lipis (83), Raub (48), Jerantut (39) and Bera (29).

After Sungai Muar broke its banks at noon, 22 victims from seven families were taken to the relief center at Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak, Segamat, according to the district disaster management committee in Johor. 

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees in Terengganu decreased slightly from 599 people from 154 families to 546 people from 137 families as of Sunday (12 December).

Seven relief centers were operating as of 3:30 pm yesterday, Sunday (12 December) in four districts, with 279 evacuees being housed in Kemaman, 220 in Kuala Nerus, 43 in Kuala Terengganu, and 79 in Setiu.
