A popular Japanese restaurant in Osaka is known for pairing the traditional miso ramen with unusual but creative toppings like… a slice of strawberry shortcake.

January last year, the restaurant went viral for serving a sweet and sour version of the red miso ramen, which they paired with a cone of soft-serve vanilla ice-cream that melts in the hot bowl of soup.
And since the red miso ramen with soft serve ice-cream was a hit, the restaurant decided to come up with a new menu - miso ramen with a slice of strawberry shortcake soaking in the hearty soup.
The unusual menu, which has been named the ‘Ramen x Shortcake’ came about after a long and grueling trial-and-error process where the restaurant’s staff tried around 30 different kinds of shortcakes to find the perfect one that would taste good with their signature red miso ramen.
The chef, who was in charged of the restaurant’s product development, Mr. Shimizu was surprised by the strawberry shortcake saying how “beautifully it pairs with the red miso ramen.”
“While the sweetness of the dessert enhances the flavour of the miso, the cream and mellow sponge lessen the heat of the soup,” he said.
Just like the soft-serve ice cream miso ramen, the strawberry shortcake version was a hit and has been garnering a lot of attention on social media.
Many who were brave enough to try the dish said it was unexpectedly good.
Not going to lie, we lowkey want to try it, too! What do you guys think? Would you try it?
