Jakarta, Named the ‘World's Most Polluted City’ Installs 125 Water Mist Generators to Tackle Air Pollution

Last month, Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, earned the dubious distinction of being named the world's most polluted city by IQAir, a Swiss air quality technology company, with consistently unhealthy air pollution levels.

In response to this alarming designation, Jakarta has implemented a series of measures to tackle its air pollution crisis. One of the latest initiatives involves the deployment of water mist generators across the city.

According to a report by Antara News, as of September 29th, 109 tall buildings in Jakarta, including the City Hall, have been equipped with a total of 125 water mist generators. Additionally, 28 more units are in the process of being installed, representing a concerted effort to enhance air quality in the city. Ani Ruspitawati, the spokesperson for the Jakarta Air Pollution Control Task Force, confirmed these developments.

Apart from the installation of water mist generators, the Jakarta provincial government has ramped up its efforts to combat air pollution. This includes increasing the watering of designated protocol roads, which serve as critical transportation arteries in the city.

As of September 28th, the city's Fire and Rescue Service had watered protocol roads at 290 locations across Jakarta, aiming to reduce dust and particulate matter in the air.

Simultaneously, the Jakarta Health Service has issued recommendations for the public to minimize unnecessary outdoor activities and to wear either KN95 or KF94 masks when venturing outside, further emphasizing the severity of the air quality concerns.

What are your thoughts on these efforts by the city to address its pollution problem?
