In addition to the annual festivities, one particular point of interest for many Malaysians on Hari Kebangsaan is the news of newborns welcomed into the world on this special day.

According to a report by New Straits Times, Pahang saw 15 births, while Terengganu celebrated 36, and Tunku Azizah Hospital (HTA) in Kuala Lumpur recorded a total of 19 newborns gracing this significant date.
Among the proud mothers who welcomed their bundles of joy on August 31st was none other than Goh Liu Ying, a former national mixed doubles badminton player, as reported by Harian Metro.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Goh shared her joy with the world, exclaiming, "Welcome to the new world, my Merdeka baby. 'I am anak Malaysia'."
It's worth noting that the Melaka-born mother gave birth at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur, though she chose to keep the name of her firstborn a delightful secret. However, a hint was dropped in the Instagram photo where vibrant letter balloons adorned the hospital room, suggesting the arrival of a baby boy.
This joyous occasion marks a significant chapter in Goh Liu Ying's life, following her retirement from professional badminton in January. The 34-year-old athlete later shared the wonderful news of her marriage and pregnancy in April.
Throughout her illustrious career, Goh Liu Ying predominantly played alongside her long-term partner, Chan Peng Soon. Despite parting ways with him last year, Goh continued to showcase her badminton prowess, teaming up with Ong Yew Sin and Soong Joo Ven. However, success was somewhat elusive during this phase, as reported by Stadium Astro.
Notably, Goh achieved significant milestones during her career, including winning a silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 with Chan. In 2019, she also clinched the Thailand Masters and New Zealand Open titles with Chan, making it one of her most triumphant years in recent memory.
Congratulations to Goh Liu Ying on becoming a mother, marking a new chapter in her life's journey. Her Merdeka baby undoubtedly adds a special and heartwarming touch to Malaysia's National Day celebrations.
